Procedure:

  1. In case you want to start making the pattern before tracing the wing shape on the cardboard, use two paper sheets and trace the wing shape you desire. You can also trace the shape you will cut into the wing, so you can have a preview of the design. Then, cut out the wings.

  2. With the template ready, start tracing the wing shape on the cardboard. Use different objects to trace shapes within the wing, like circles, hearts, etc.

  3. Now, using scissors, cut out the butterfly wings. We recommend using a cutter to cut out the shapes within the wings for greater precision. Remember that this action must be done by an adult to prevent accidents like a cut.

  4. When the butterfly wings are done, it is time to add color! Trace the shapes you made within the wings on the cellophane sheets. Use different colors so the shadows will look like a rainbow. Then, cut out all the shapes.

  5. If you want to add more details, you can paint the wings black. This step is optional.

  6. Now, glue the cellophane shapes onto each wing figure using multi-purpose glue or tape. Don’t use hot glue, as it can melt since Cellophane is plastic.

  7. Once both wings are ready, cut two pieces of cardboard into rectangular shapes (don’t forget to paint them black if you already painted the wings). Stick one behind both wings and the other above them. Let it dry.

  8. When it is dry, make four holes (one in each corner) with the help of scissors and insert the ribbons. Tie them according to the child’s size. Don’t worry if you can’t measure the kid now; the ribbons can be adjusted at any time.

And it’s done! Now you have your beautiful butterfly wings! To see the magic in action, you will need to take your child to the park. Then sun will make the shadows change into different colors because of the cellophane reflection. You can also dress up your kid with a tutu skirt so she can look like a fairy. They will have a blast wearing these cute wings!
